On behalf of our entire team, I'd like to thank you for your interest in DeepBlue Staff Development. Family Conflict and Childhood Trauma

Matt Sanders

Topics:

Bereavement/Abandonment Issues… How can I help my children through death in the family or in our community? How can children understand death when we as adults struggle with this loss? What kinds of things should I watch for as a parent when my child is grieving?

Divorce/Blended Family… How do parents deal with their own difficult emotions in order to help the children? What kinds of thoughts/feelings do kids confront when families experience divorce? How does a child’s age or developmental level play a role in their resilience? How do children find guidance and healing with significant changes in family structure?

Abuse, Addiction and Traumatic Injury… What are the risk factors involved if abuse or addiction exists in the family? How do family members learn new ways of dealing with conflict while restoring trust? Do early childhood wounds always result in bad relationships later in life? What is required if an adult becomes aware that children are being harmed?

Family Roles in Socializing Children… How can my child make healthy, positive choices and not be guided by fear – for example, when confronted with a bully? How do we instruct children to respond to adults if they are feeling unfairly treated or uncomfortable? Is sharing parental fear with my child appropriate - where do I draw the line on my explanations for expectations at school, with friends, with strangers? Why do I lose my cool (or my sense of humor) when my child gets in trouble? Can I be strong and kind with consequences?
